Joel Klatt is bullish on Ryan Day’s 2024 recruiting class for Ohio State. In fact, the popular broadcaster for FOX believes a case can be made for the Buckeyes holding the best class in the cycle.

As Early Signing Day rolled into the evening hours, the race to the No. 1 spot for the 2024 recruiting class was already wrapped up. Kirby Smart’s Georgia program claimed the No. 1 spot in the 247 Sports Composite Rankings, but Klatt believes some of that ranking is rated to volume when compared to Ohio State’s class.

“Ohio State: They were, really, in a lot of ways, one of the best classes if not the best class,” said Klatt in his latest podcast episode. “I know that Georgia is going to have the numbers to rank them No. 1. But remember a lot of that has to do with volume. All of these rankings have to do with volume. So if you sign 26 players, that’s going to be a better overall score than if you score 21 players. And a lot of that is just scholarship availability and what you’ve got in your program.”

Klatt went on to compare the average rating of players between Georgia and Ohio State’s classes as comparable.  He also pointed to more 5-star players in Ohio State’s class.

“Well, Georgia signed more players than Ohio State. Ohio State’s average player ranking is right there with Georgia, and (the Buckeyes) signed more 5-star players than anyone else in the country,” Klatt explained.

While it is close, Georgia still led the Buckeyes in average rating at 93.58 to 92.92. However, Ohio State’s rating did check in just ahead of Alabama’s 92.82 with Nick Saban’s program No. 2 in the team rankings. Georgia’s class is also not lacking in 5-star talent as the Bulldogs signed 4 such recruits to Ohio State’s 5.

At the end of the day, it will all be about how these classes develop and produce at the next level. Both programs are loaded with talent and should be formidable in the years to come.
