Mark Stoops has his new offensive coordinator. Kentucky has officially announced the hiring of Bush Hamdan as the Wildcats’ new OC and quarterbacks coach.

A former quarterback at Boise State (2004-08), Hamdan has been in coaching since 2009. He has SEC experience from prior stops at Florida and Missouri. Hamdan served as his alma mater’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the 2023 season.

In addition to SEC familiarity, Stoops also cited Hamdan’s experience working with top offensive minds during his time with the Washington Huskies and NFL’s Atlanta Falcons.

“I’ve known Bush for a few years and spent some quality time with him in 2021,” Stoops said in a program release. “Since then, I’ve followed his career and have been very impressed by him. He’s coached under Chris Petersen, Steve Sarkisian and Eli Drinkwitz, three coaches I have a ton of respect for, and I think he’s a rising star in the coaching profession. We are excited to bring Bush and his family to Lexington.”

Hamdan is excited to be back in the SEC. He served as Florida’s wide receivers coach in 2012, an 11-2 season for the Gators. He was a Mizzou assistant from 2020-22, working with Tiger quarterbacks and wide receivers.

“We are very excited to join the Big Blue Nation,” Hamdan said in a released statement. “I’ve really admired Coach Stoops over the years and everything he’s done to build this program. It’s an exciting time to be at Kentucky and be back in the SEC. I can’t wait to get started.”

It works out that this is the fourth consecutive season Stoops has made an OC hire. Liam Coen took the job in 2021, but returned to the Los Angeles Rams for the 2022 season. Rich Scangarello was brought on to succeed Coen. After Scangarello’s dismissal in November 2022, Coen returned for the 2023 season. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers recently hired Coen as their OC for 2024.
