Dan Mullen finished his 9 seasons at Mississippi State with 69 wins, second among all head coaches in MSU history. A lot of football fans are wondering if Mullen will be the Bulldogs’ next head coach after Zach Arnett’s recent dismissal.

Appearing Wednesday on SiriusXM with Peter Burns and Dari Nowkah, Mullen was asked about a potential return to Starkville.

“It’s always a great honor when your name gets mentioned with stuff,” Mullen said, speaking to his ESPN colleagues. “I know the people of Mississippi are so special, and hold a special place in my heart. You never say never when those things go on. I haven’t spoken with anybody administratively at Mississippi State. I talk to all kinds of fans and friends, people that we love in Mississippi… You never say never going back, but I don’t know if this is the time.”

Mullen coached was MSU’s head coach from 2009-to-2017. He posted a 69-46 record, including a 33-39 mark in conference play, before taking the Florida job.

While Mullen’s return to Starkville as Florida’s head coach in 2018 was met with some hostility, those wounds seem to have healed with time. Mullen told Saturday Down South’s Connor O’Gara in July that he prefers to be associated with Mississippi State over Florida.
