Mississippi State lost one piece of the 2024 recruiting class Sunday evening. The decision comes from an in-state Edge prospect.

The player is Tyler Carter, a 6-foot-6 and 251-pound Edge recruit out of Vicksburg High School. Carter committed to the Bulldogs in June but is re-examining his options.

“After a long talk with my family and god I have decided to decommit from Mississippi State and open my recruitment back up,” said Carter via social media. “Thank you to all the coaches who recruited me with that being said my recruitment is 100% back open.”

According to the 247 Sports Composite, Carter is rated as a 3-star prospect and the No. 21 player out of Mississippi for the 2024 recruiting class. He’s also rated the 52nd Edge recruit in the nation.

The good news is it has not been all bad news for Jeff Lebby on the recruiting trail. Mississippi State landed a pledge from 4-star QB Michael Van Buren Sunday, giving Lebby a prominent passer from the high school ranks to work with in Starkville.
