As No. 9 Missouri was winding down to its win over Tennessee this past weekend, the team’s star tailback was chasing an illustrious record.

During the game against the Volunteers on Saturday, a coach for the Tigers informed Eli Drinkwitz on the sidelines that Cody Schrader was 20 yards away from breaking Mizzou football’s all-purpose yards record.

Drinkwitz immediately noted offensive coordinator Kirby Moore that he wanted to get 20 more yards for Schrader, whether it was off of pass or run plays.

“It’s all purpose, so it doesn’t matter,” Drinkwitz said over the headset.

Drinkwitz told Schrader that he was close to breaking a school record. But Schrader said, “We didn’t build this team off of chasing records.”

Despite hearing this response, Drinkwitz still encouraged Schrader to chase it.

Schrader rushed for 205 yards and a touchdown on 35 carries against Tennessee. He also caught 5 passes for 116 yards. Schrader also became only the 6th SEC player since 2007 to post 100 yards rushing and 100 yards receiving in the same game.

After the Tigers locked up the 36-7 victory over the Vols, the team erupted in applause when Drinkwitz broke down Schrader’s numbers on Saturday night.

Drinkwitz, fighting back emotions, told the team the selfless comment that Schrader had about chasing a school record, then proceeded to give the game ball.

Missouri (8-2) takes on Florida this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN.
