ESPN College GameDay pundit Kirk Herbstreit was a college football quarterback, so it should come as no surprise that he was pumped up about tonight’s signal-caller matchup between Texas A&M’s Marcel Reed and Notre Dame’s CJ Carr.
“Marcel Reed has some new weapons to work with on the outside, led by KC Concepcion and Mario Craver. Those guys are playing great for A&M. But I think CJ Carr is a great story,” Herbstreit said during Saturday’s show. “He comes in with all the pressure being the Notre Dame quarterback, first game he gets to play is Miami. Throws a pick in the fourth quarter, how did he respond? (He went) 7-of-9 for 129 through the air and ran a touchdown in.
“I think he really grew up in the opening game. Now has two weeks of prep to get ready for the A&M defense. How he plays this week will be big.”
A sophomore, Carr makes his second collegiate start tonight for the eighth-ranked Fighting Irish in South Bend when No. 16 Texas A&M invades at 7:39 pm ET. Through 2 games, Reed has delivered 509 passing yards and 7 touchdowns for the 2-0 Aggies – and the sophomore also leads Texas A&M in rushing with 105 ground yards and another TD.
We’ll see which QB fares better Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
