Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry reacts to SEC threat to expel LSU: ‘Ridiculous’

Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry is not happy with the latest developments in LSU’s dispute with the SEC.
On Tuesday, the SEC amended its lawsuit against LSU to seek authority to expel the school from the conference. The legal documents also revealed that the conference has a meeting on the matter set for Thursday.
While the ESPN story bylined to Pete Thamel, Mark Schlabach and Dan Murphy says that “the SEC is not expected to take such action,” the threat of expulsion is the hottest topic in the world of college football. Unsurprisingly, Louisiana’s governor is not amused with the latest development in the dispute between the SEC and LSU.
Speaking to Ross Dellenger, Jeff Landry called the situation “ridiculous.” He feels LSU should be able to focus on football with the Tigers’ 2026 season now underway.

The governor has made many LSU football-related headlines over the past year. Landry had plenty to say about the dismissal of Brian Kelly, including numerous comments about coaching contracts with large buyouts being a problem in college football. While there was some concern that Landry’s comments might hinder LSU’s coaching search to replace Kelly, Landry helped the program present an alignment in leadership as it pursued Lane Kiffin, who was also considering a move to Florida or remaining at Ole Miss.
