The 10th-ranked Aggies picked up their biggest win of the past few seasons last Saturday, knocking off then-No. 8 Notre Dame 41-40 in a stunning road upset.
The driving force in the stunning victory for Texas A&M in South Bend was the work of its star sophomore quarterback, Marcel Reed, who put up nearly 400 yards of total offense and 2 touchdowns on the night.
Reed’s performance against the Irish was reminiscent of a former legendary A&M gunslinger and Heisman Trophy winner. Coincidentally, Reed told TexAgs that none other than Johnny Manziel actually reached out via FaceTime following the big win.
“It was cool because he was in my hometown while watching the game,” Reed said. “He actually FaceTimed me while we got on the plane, and I showed some of my teammates ‘Johnny’s saying what’s up.’ I showed him around to the plane, and then he sent me a couple of encouraging texts, but it was really cool seeing him post about it.”
This cool moment just shows how much Manziel still cares about the Aggies’ program, and the type of impact he has on the new generation of players who are donning the iconic A&M maroon and white.
If Reed can continue playing like he has over the past few weeks, then he could end up writing his name next to Manziel’s in the Texas A&M history books.
