Lane Kiffin is feeling pretty good about things on Saturday. A lot of that has to do with a big win for Ole Miss on the recruiting trail.

That win came when Austin Simmons — a 4-star quarterback out of Florida — flipped his commitment from SEC rival Florida to the Rebels. Simmons was originally a prospect in the 2025 recruiting class but included the announcement that he will reclassify to the class of 2023 and enroll this summer.

After the announcement, Kiffin posted a tweet of the “great weekend vibes in Oxford.” That tweet was accompanied by a screenshot of Tom Petty’s top songs on Spotify. The list of course includes “I Won’t Back Down,” a song Florida plays in tribute to Petty at the end of the 3rd quarter of every home game.

While Kiffin is relishing in the recruiting win, Florida beat Ole Miss in the most recent meeting between the two programs during the 2020 season. The teams are scheduled to meet in SEC play during the 2024 season.
