Every Friday, CBS Sports ranks something regarding college football. This Friday, they ranked the top-five toughest schedules for the 2016 season.

To nobody’s surprise, because of the Southeastern Conference’s combination of depth and elite talent at the top, the conference has two schools representing a couple of the toughest schedules across the country: Auburn and Alabama, according to CBSSports. Auburn checked in at No.5, while Alabama was ranked No. 3.

The article states, “Even with a contract extension, Malzahn seems firmly entrenched on a seat that is only getting warmer by the day, and if he wants it to cool off, he has his work cut out for him with Auburn’s 2016 schedule.”

It doesn’t take long to see why Auburn is on this ranking. In the Tigers’ season opener, Auburn gets to face Clemson, last year’s College Football Playoff runner-up. From there, Auburn plays LSU, Georgia and Alabama. Alabama and Clemson rank in ESPN.com’s Way-Too-Early Top 25 poll as the top-two teams in 2016.

Nine different teams on their schedule also participated in bowl games last season. That would certainly fall under the category of ‘tough’.

One thing Auburn does have going for it is that if it does take time for this year’s team to gel, the Tigers’ first five games of the season are at home. If Auburn gets past Clemson in the opener, it would be a huge momentum builder with four straight home games following that showdown.

With respect to Alabama, the article says, “The season will begin with USC in Jerry World, which props up a non-conference schedule that really isn’t all that difficult (sorry, Western Kentucky, Kent State and Chattanooga). No, what makes Alabama’s schedule a bit daunting is the SEC portion of it. The Tide will have to play Ole Miss, Arkansas, Tennessee and LSU on the road this season.”

Alabama does only have four true road games out of its 12 scheduled, but with those four being at Ole Miss, Arkansas, Tennessee and LSU, none will be a cakewalk. One benefit to facing LSU on the road, though, is that the Crimson Time have a bye the week before, allowing for extra preparation time.

Alabama also finishes the season with three straight home games and getting USC in the opener in the state of Texas will be an enormous game.

Here are CBS’ Top 5 toughest schedules in 2016:

No. 1 Wisconsin
No. 2 USC
No. 3 Alabama
No. 4 BYU
No. 5 Auburn
