It’s a revenge game in Tuscaloosa this week as Alabama looks for payback against Ole Miss.

The Rebels took care of the Crimson Tide last year in Oxford. The few teams who have beaten Alabama in the Nick Saban era have often suffered his wrath in their next trip to Bryant-Denny Stadium, just as Texas A&M.

But Ole Miss is loaded with talent. The nation’s No. 9 recruiting class from three years ago is blossoming under Rebels coach Hugh Freeze and the numbers they’ve put up in the first two weeks of the season have been astounding.

This game figures to serve as a real litmus test for both teams, as well as an entertaining evening for fans. Here are five players to watch who could have a huge impact on the outcome.

1. Ole Miss DL Robert Nkemdiche — The preseason All-American has made waves by scoring two offensive touchdowns in the first two weeks, potentially as a gimmick to help a Heisman Trophy campaign. This week he needs to get down to business on defense to help the Rebels try to slow down the Alabama running game. Nkemdiche had five tackles in last year’s win over the Tide.

2. Alabama CB Cyrus Jones — Jones has taken some heat in the past for giving up big plays, but he rose to the challenge last weekend against a pass-happy Middle Tennessee State team. But the challenge gets even tougher this weekend with the Chad Kelly-led Ole Miss passing game coming to town. The junior-college transfer completed 20 of 25 passes for 346 yards and four touchdowns last weekend against Fresno State and he’s going to keep Jones busy all night.

3. Alabama WR Calvin Ridley — The expectations for the freshman may have been a bit out of whack after he drew early comparisons to and an endorsement from former Tide star Amari Cooper. So far Ridley has been solid, but not spectacular with seven catches for 59 yards. His longest catch in the first two weeks was just 16 yards. Fans keep expecting Ridley to eventually have a breakout game and Saturday might be a good time for it as Alabama looks for a wideout to become more of a deep threat.

4. Alabama TE O.J. Howard — The player who has been the biggest deep threat so far for Alabama hasn’t been a wide receiver at all, but rather tight end O.J. Howard. If Saturday’s game turns into the shootout it seems like it potentially could, Howard will play a huge role. This season he’s been Jake Coker’s most reliable target downfield. He’s second on the team in receiving with seven catches for 105 yards. He not only gets open, he’s tough to bring down after the catch.

5. Ole Miss WR Laquon Treadwell — Treadwell entered the season as the Rebels wide receiver everyone was talking about, but he’s allowed Cody Core and Quincy Adeboyejo to take center stage in the first two blowout victories. Not that he’s been invisible, he had nine catches for 117 yards thus far, but others have made the big plays. But this is the week it gets serious, so don’t be surprised if Kelly looks more often to the established veteran against an Alabama team sure to get more pressure on the quarterback.
