The ongoing investigation at Ohio State has led to many reports and comments over the past few weeks.

In a new development on Thursday, reporter and author Jeff Snook released messages that Michelle Herman, wife of former Buckeyes assistant Tom Herman, sent him about her previous contact with Courtney Smith, the ex-wife of former Ohio State assistant Zach Smith who claims that her ex-husband committed domestic violence several times.

However, according to Michelle Herman’s messages to Snook, she believes those allegations are false.

“She never told me she was being abused. She never told anyone she was being abused. Nobody saw any abuse,” Herman messaged Snook. “We were close. I am not saying we weren’t close. We just weren’t that close while we were there. I wouldn’t call her my best friend, either.”

Tom Herman was Ohio State’s offensive coordinator from 2012-14. Zach Smith was the wide receivers coach at the time, and he held that position until he was fired last month due to the domestic violence allegations.

Michelle Herman also confirmed to Snook that she gave Courtney Smith money in 2017, three years after the Hermans had left Ohio State.

“When she needed to borrow money, she was drowning in debt and going to drop out of school. I said, ‘That’s a bad idea. Then what will you do?’” Herman messaged Snook. “I said, ‘Why don’t you let me loan you the money? I mean, it’s not going to hurt us.’ We loan people money all the time. Sometimes, we just give it to them.”

Herman’s comments on Smith not being abused contradict the story she told, which led to her ex-husband’s firing and Ohio State coach Urban Meyer being placed on administrative leave.

Perhaps the investigation that Ohio State is currently conducting will lead to clearer answers for this situation.
