Paul Finebaum made his regular Monday appearance on WJOX in Birmingham, Alabama, and offered his thoughts on the projected SEC scheduling models.

Finebaum was asked about Nick Saban’s reaction to potential annual opponents for Alabama in future SEC scheduling being Auburn, LSU and Tennessee.

“I think there was a lot of negativity based on the headline, the tweet, because the impression was that Nick Saban was concerned,” Finebaum said on “McElroy and Cubelic In the morning.” “But I don’t need to tell you this, or anybody listening in the audience, Nick Saban plays these teams anyway. He has 6 national championships on the schedule of (Auburn), Tennessee and LSU every year. Nick Saban is an analyst at heart. He loves to morph into the czar of college football. By the way he’d be perfect for that role. I think he was just explaining: ‘Here’s the system, would it have been better if they’ve done it this way.’ … I don’t think his statements really mean a whole lot. I think what we’re about to get into though, Cole, is about 6-8 weeks of constant teeth gnashing, not by every school in the SEC, but as these begin to leak out and already we’ve seen 2 or 3, it is going to become the discussion.”

Finebaum added that Saban may not only be the best coach in college football history, but also the smartest.

As for the number of games, Finebaum figures the league is moving toward 9 league games, and one next step in the process could be when the college presidents meet this week in Nashville.

Finebaum was then asked about Kirby Smart putting out a statement to address the off-the-field issues that Georgia’s faced in recent weeks and months.

“Cole, I don’t think Kirby Smart owes anyone an explanation,” Finebaum said. “He did an interview the other day where he said he doesn’t feel like they have a culture problem, and I believe him. I’ve read countless columns, blogs, Twitter posts over the last couple of days, ‘Kirby Smart needs to clean up his culture problem.’ He has the same problem at Georgia that Nick Saban has, that Billy Napier has, and that Sam Pittman has, and by the way I’m not indicting these schools, I’m simply saying everyone has problems on their campus.”
