The SEC, a.k.a. RBU, hasn’t had a repeat rushing champion (by yards) since Darren McFadden accomplished the feat with Arkansas back in 2006-07. LSU RB Derrius Guice will try to snap the streak in 2017.

Here’s a look at what happened to the SEC rushing champions the following year since McFadden went back-to-back. Some were seniors while others left early.

Knowshon Moreno, Georgia, sophomore, 1,400 yards – Opting early for the NFL draft, Moreno was the top running back in the 2009 draft and was selected in the first round, the 12th overall pick, by the Denver Broncos. His pro career was cut short, however, by knees injuries in 2011 and 2014.

Mark Ingram, Alabama, sophomore, 1,658 yards – He could have conceivably made it two straight, but the emergence of sophomore running mate Trent Richardson cut down on his carries and Ingram finished the year with 875 yards on 158 carries, which were 113 fewer totes than the prior season. He still led the Tide in rushing and ranked 10th in the conference.

Cam Newton, Auburn, junior, 1,473 yards – Newton burst onto the scene in 2010 and just as quickly left for the NFL. The first pick in the 2011 NFL draft by the Carolina Panthers, Newton followed up a national championship with a Super Bowl appearance after the 2015 season.

Trent Richardson, Alabama, junior, 1,679 yards – Opting early for the NFL draft, Richardson was selected in the first round — third overall — by the Cleveland Browns. Currently a free agent, Richardson split four seasons in the NFL with the Browns and Indianapolis Colts.

Johnny Manziel, Texas A&M, freshman, 1,410 yards – He didn’t win the SEC rushing title again in 2013, but the Aggies’ quarterback still led the team in rushing with 759 yards, which ranked 12th in the conference.

Tre Mason, Auburn, junior, 1,816 yards – After leading Auburn to the 2013 national championship, Mason took his talents to the NFL, foregoing his senior season. A third-round draft pick of the Los Angeles Rams, Mason rushed for 972 yards in two seasons before being put on the PUP list last season.

Cameron Artis-Payne, Auburn, senior, 1,608 yards – Drafted in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL draft by the Carolina Panthers, Artis-Payne has played sparingly in two seasons.

Derrick Henry, Alabama, junior, 2,219 yards – Another early entrant into the NFL draft, Henry was chosen in the second round of the 2016 draft by the Tennessee Titans. In his rookie season, Henry rushed 110 times for 490 yards and five touchdowns.

Derrius Guice, LSU, sophomore, 1,387 yards – Looks to become the first SEC running back to win back-to-back rushing titles since McFadden.
