The Louisville football program was hit hard this weekend as tragedy struck when 18-year-old Dexter Rentz was shot and killed in Orlando. Rentz signed with the Cardinal program as a member of the 2020 recruiting cycle during the Early Signing Period.

While nothing will make up for the loss Rentz’s family has suffered, Shaquille O’Neal is doing his part to ease the financial burden being felt by the family as the Hall of Famer plans on paying all funeral expenses for Rentz, according to ESPN.

O’Neal is having a custom casket made and is prepared to pay for a horse and carriage for Rentz.

“He was on his way, he really was,” O’Neal continued. “I don’t know what it feels like to lose a son, but I know what it feels like to lose someone.

“This one hurts my heart. It really does. I wish things like this would never go on. It’s just so sad, and I want to be able to help his family. I wanted to take care of it.”

According to Rentz’s family, the Louisville football player was a victim of a drive-by shooting and simply a victim of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. He is not believed to have been a target in the shooting.
