In an all-or-nothing game against Alabama this weekend, LSU RB Leonard Fournette will:

  • Basically lock up the Heisman Trophy with a convincing win, or
  • Open the door for other Power 5 contenders (Big 12: Trevone Boykin; Big Ten: Ezekiel Elliot; ACC: Deshaun Watson; SEC: Derrick Henry; Pac 12: Christian McCaffrey).

Fournette, the sophomore back, ran for an uninspiring 79 yards on 21 carries in his only game against Alabama, but the Crimson Tide hasn’t seen anybody quite like the 2015 version.

If RB Nick Chubb can run for 146 yards in a blowout loss to the Tide, albeit most on a 83-yard TD run in a 38-10 beatdown, then there’s no reason Fournette, who’s season-low is 150 rushing yards, can’t keep up his record-setting pace as well.

The SEC has the best chance to reclaim the Heisman this year as it is the only conference with two players likely heading to the trophy ceremony in December.

BOVADA UPDATED HEISMAN ODDS (last week’s in parenthesis)

  • Leonard Fournette – RB, LSU – (2/5) 4/9
  • Trevone Boykin – QB, TCU – (15/2) 5/1
  • Ezekiel Elliot – RB, OSU – (9/1) 8/1
  • Deshaun Watson – QB, Clemson – (11/1) 9/1

It should be clear by now that LSU’s matchup in Tuscaloosa on Saturday will have more at stake than just the driver’s seat in the SEC West.
