Urban Meyer has scanned the country in college football, and as an analyst on FOX Sports is aware of the teams to watch. But during a podcast segment with Tim May, Meyer laid out a pair of notable teams that have caught his eye this offseason.

He was asked for a TCU-like team, meaning similar to last year’s Horned Frogs, who went from unranked in the preseason to the national championship. Meyer chose Texas and LSU.

The former Ohio State and Florida coach said Texas is too good of a place to not eventually win, and the combination of Steve Sarkisian and a talented roster means that Meyer believes the Longhorns are capable of having a big season.

“They are loaded, there’s a 5-star athlete at every position on offense,” he said. “I watched them against Alabama last year, they should have won that game. If Quinn Ewers doesn’t go down, the whole 2022 season is completely different.”

At LSU, Brian Kelly adapted much quicker than Meyer thought he would.

“LSU’s a tough-ass place to play,” Meyer said. “He’s a good, tough coach now. So I’ve got Texas and LSU are 2 teams, if not in the Playoff, they’re going to be right there.”
