Chip Kelly’s hiring as UCLA looked like a home run. His track record in the Pac-12 with Oregon is stellar, and it showed a commitment to football by a school more known for its basketball program.

Five games into Kelly’s debut season in Los Angeles, things are not looking good for the Bruins. They are 0-5, losing every game by multiple scores with the exception of a Week 6 31-24 loss against Washington.

ESPN analyst and former Texas longhorn Emmanuel Acho had something to say about Chip Kelly’s slow start. Acho was part of the Philadelphia Eagles from 2013-2015, the same three years that Chip Kelly was the head coach.

“Chip, he cut me five times,” said Acho, “five times he told me I wasn’t good enough.

“Well Chip, at 0-5, you’re not good enough.”

Acho was signed by the Eagles off the Giants’ practice squad in 2013, and was waived and resigned many times before being waived for the final time in 2015, signaling the end of his NFL career.

We’ll see how Chip Kelly pans out at UCLA, but it seems Acho is enjoying the poetic justice of Kelly’s miserable start.
