After nearly a year of being committed, Lamarius Benson has backed off his pledge to play for South Carolina.

The Covington, Ga., native committed to the Gamecocks last March. Following his decommitment, South Carolina is now down to two commitments in the 2018 recruiting class. The Gamecocks have 19 other 2018 prospects either signed or enrolled in school in Columbia.

The three-star prospect does not currently have another SEC offer as we sit less than a week away from National Signing Day. It will be interesting to see if Benson’s defection is a result of Under Armour All-American Dylan Wonnum informing the Carolina staff that he plans to play in Columbia.

Here’s the note Benson posted on Twitter, announcing he was no longer a part of the 2018 South Carolina recruiting class.
