Earlier this week, College GameDay analyst Kirk Herbstreit was a guest on Scott Van Pelt’s new SportsCenter show to discuss briefly his thoughts on the college football season after two weeks and what he’s excited to see on Saturday.

Here’s a few highlights from the conversation:

On biggest surprise in college football:

“I have to say (Oregon QB) Vernon Adams. Let’s keep in mind, he passes his math test and is in Eugene for about three weeks of two-a-days to learn the offense that he’s never seen and he’s asked to go to East Lansing? I’ve heard about him, knew he could throw run and throw it a little bit, but I didn’t think he had the moxie to be able to deal with that environment. When I look at that performance, it makes me believe that this team is going to be very hard for anybody to deal with in the Pac 12 North.”

On Alabama-Ole Miss unknowns:

“Quarterback play, both sides. Chad Kelly is lighting it up against inferior opponents. I can not wait to see him spin it against that Alabama defense on the road especially after the way this game ended a year ago. He brings a whole different level of ability with all do respect to our man Bo (Wallace) last year. He can throw it, he can run it and he’s got a lot of athletes around him. I want to see him do it in that environment against that kind of defense. Jake Coker, after the Alabama-Wisconsin game, I think people got excited about there’s your answer, but I wasn’t one of them yet. He might become that guy, but I want to see him against a high-caliber defense. We’ll find out this weekend against the landsharks.”

On son, Chase, picking Ole Miss:

“I had nothing to do with it. That was little man. He picked Kentucky last week. Now he’s jumping into the deep end of the pool and picking Ole Miss.”

On Georgia Tech’s ceiling this fall (favored at Notre Dame):

“Preseason, that was a team I picked to win the ACC. I think they will play Florida State possibly and they’re going to win the conference and have a shot at knocking on the door for the final four. I think Justin Thomas is one of the most electrifying players in the country. We’re going to learn more about this team as they play more competition that can compete with them and try to defend that option attack. There’s enough there to get very excited about what this team can do. I like them a lot and we’ll find out this weekend, even with the Irish’s injuries, I still think we find out more about Georgia Tech. I think the ceiling is the final four.”
