AD Mitchell is officially off the board in the 2024 NFL Draft.

The talented former Texas Longhorn and Georgia Bulldog is headed to the Indianapolis Colts with the 52nd overall pick (20th pick of the 2nd round). He will head to the Colts where Mitchell will get to work with former Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson, a first-round pick by the franchise a year ago.

The pick by Indianapolis is one that presents a lot of value. Mitchell received a first-round grade from many publications, but he was not selected as 1 of the 7 receivers coming off the board Thursday night. The former Longhorn and Bulldog is the 11th WR selected in the draft.

Mitchell had a remarkable collegiate career. He spent his first 2 seasons of college football with Georgia, where he won back-to-back national championships as a member of the Bulldogs.

He didn’t put up big numbers in either season with UGA, but he did come up clutch when it mattered most. Mitchell scored a touchdown in all 4 of this College Football Playoff appearances with Georgia.

Mitchell then transferred to Texas ahead of the 2023 season in search of a bigger role. That’s exactly what Mitchell earned, as he caught 55 passes for 845 yards and 11 touchdowns while splitting targets with fellow star wideout Xavier Worthy.

Of course, Mitchell also made an additional appearance in the College Football Playoff with the Longhorns. Although Texas lost a tight game to Washington in the CFP semifinal, Mitchell extended his streak of consecutive Playoff games with a touchdown to 5.

Mitchell is the second Texas wide receiver to be selected in the first 3 rounds of the NFL Draft since Devin Duvernay went in the 3rd round in 2020. Xavier Worthy became the first when the Kansas City Chiefs grabbed him in the 1st round. The last Longhorn to go in the 1st round of the NFL Draft was Roy Williams in 2004.
