Prop bets for the SEC’s third Saturday:

MISSISSIPPI’S POINT TOTAL AT ALABAMA

Options — Single digits; Between 10 and 17; Between 18 and 25; 26 or more

Projection: The Rebels proved last fall they could win a defensive struggled against the Crimson Tide, a recipe that may work against Saturday night if the offense doesn’t click like it has the first two weeks of the season. Ole Miss has scored 70 or more points consecutive games for the first time in program history, but this test is considerably different. The outcome will ultimately be decided by Chad Kelly’s play at quarterback and how he manages Hugh Freeze’s offense. If Kelly proves the stage isn’t too big in front of sellout crowd in Tuscaloosa, his Heisman odds will skyrocket next week and the Rebels become the SEC front-runner.

JEREMY JOHNSON’S INTERCEPTIONS AT LSU

Options — Zero; One; Two; Three or more

Projection: Will the real Heisman candidate please stand up? Jeremy Johnson is a much more talented quarterback than what he’s shown thus far with five interceptions and pedestrian passing numbers. He’s the key to Auburn’s season and without him, the Tigers will be lucky to finish .500 against a very challenging SEC slate beginning with Saturday’s affair in Baton Rouge. At this point, you have to think Kevin Steele will load the box and force Gus Malzahn’s offense to beat the league’s best secondary through the air. If Johnson throws two or more picks in Death Valley, Auburn won’t have a shot.

NICK CHUBB’S NUMBERS AGAINST SOUTH CAROLINA

Options — Less than 100 yards rushing; Between 101-125; Between 126-150; More than 150

Projection: This one has disaster written all over it for the Gamecocks’ defense. Not only is Chubb the SEC’s Heisman frontrunner, but South Carolina’s giving up a league-worst 5.8 yards per carry this season and hasn’t shown much improvement from a tackling perspective up front or in the secondary. We’re going to defy logic and take under 150 due to the fact that the Bulldogs should have this game in hand midway through the third quarter, allowing Sony Michel and Keith Marshall to handle the bulk of the rushing load the rest of the way. Chubb should hit 11 straight 100-yard games (despite my bold prediction), but doesn’t gash the Gamecocks as much as you would expect.
