We all think we’d make great headline writers, but it’s actually more difficult than it looks.

Coming up with something short, simple and witty that can tell the story of an entire football game in just a fraction of a sentence is a unique skill.

This season, we’re going to have some fun trying to predict the headlines you’ll read about your favorite team in your local paper on Sunday morning.

We’re at a disadvantage, of course, because we don’t know how the game will turn out. That’s the part of the prediction that makes things interesting.

Here are our headline predictions for Week 5:

Alabama (at Georgia): Doggone it!

With the Crimson Tide’s first game in Athens since 2008 set to go down on Saturday, expect the rare clash of two of the SEC’s elite programs to be everything it has been built up to be. Unfortunately for Alabama, that could mean Mark Richt finally gets Georgia fans off his back with a close win in a “big game” against the Crimson Tide.

Arkansas (at Tennessee): Victory on Rocky Top

Though they did not come away with the victory, the Razorbacks still turned in a very encouraging performance against Texas A&M on Saturday. Arkansas got back to what it does best, and if the Hogs are able to maintain that type of control in this game, they may just have what it takes to end a three-game losing streak.

Auburn (vs. San Jose State): Back on track

No one expects to see an overnight offensive turnaround against San Jose State after weeks of dysfunction, but most Auburn fans would be thrilled to see some progress and walk away with a sense that things are getting better. They will get that this week.

Florida (vs. Ole Miss): Rebs run The Swamp

Though the Gators deserve respect for their 4-0 start to the season, including a comeback win against the Vols last week, Ole Miss will prove to be too much of a challenge for this young team to handle.

Georgia (vs. Alabama): Dawgs withstand the Tide

Georgia has a College Football Playoff caliber team and Saturday is the Bulldogs’ chance to let the rest of the college football world know it. It won’t be easy, but Georgia will find a way to win at home against Alabama.

Kentucky (vs. Eastern Kentucky): Colonels can’t catch Cats

This game should be a fun one for the state of Kentucky, as EKU is located just down the interstate from Lexington, but the Wildcats are too good for this to be considered a chance at an upset. Kentucky wins big.

LSU (vs. Eastern Michigan): Fournette rests, Tigers roll

Les Miles faced all kinds of questions about how much his star running back would play in a game in which the Tigers are nearly 45-point favorites, and the answer to that is likely “just enough.” Tigers win big here, and LSU saves some of the tread on the Fournette tires for when things get rough later in the season.

Mississippi State (at Texas A&M): Dak, Dogs come close in Texas

The Bulldogs have the talent and depth to go into a hostile environment and win a game like this, so take it as no disrespect when I pick a headline that tags Mississippi State as the loser. This should be a close ball game.

Missouri (vs. South Carolina): Mauk no longer a Lock at QB

Much of the talk around the Tigers program has been about the suspension of struggling starting QB Maty Mauk, but talented freshman Drew Lock is a strong performance away from becoming the new topic of discussion.

Ole Miss (at Florida): Rebels stay on the offensive in Swamp

Chad Kelly had what many would consider an “off game” against an underrated Vanderbilt defense and still threw for more than 300 yards on the way to a win. If this turns into a shootout, I’m just not sure that Gators freshman QB Will Grier is up to the challenge quite yet.

South Carolina (at Missouri): Columbia Cup stays out West

In a battle of freshman quarterbacks, the edge goes to the guy with a better defense and the home crowd behind him. That being said, don’t be surprised if the Gamecocks continue to show life with the excitement of Lorenzo Nunez.

Tennessee (vs. Arkansas): Butch beaten again

Expectations for the Vols season have hit an all-time low after Tennessee was hyped for many months as a national sleeper. September losses to Oklahoma and Florida are nothing to be ashamed of, but you have to wonder if the manner in which they lost those games has taken its toll on the psyche of this team. Arkansas will be ready to pounce if it has.

Texas A&M (vs. Mississippi State): Aggies down Dak

The Aggies didn’t have their best outing last week against Arkansas, but they were good enough to get the job done on a neutral site. Mississippi State will bring it Saturday, but expect a better outing from Texas A&M within the friendly confines of Kyle Field.

Vanderbilt (at Middle Tennessee State): Blue Raiders ride again

The Commodores have lost their last three meetings with Middle Tennessee, and are in desperate need of a win after a 1-3 start to the season. This one will be close, and is likely to play out much like Vanderbilt’s season opener against another Conference USA foe (Western Kentucky).
