Week 8 came and went with a few more questions answered and a few more questions raised, particularly after several SEC quarterbacks struggled.

Stephen Garcia stares down the five most pressing issues surrounding SEC quarterbacks as we get ready for Week 9, starting with the developing quarterback situation in Lexington:

Question: Patrick Towles struggled last week against Mississippi State and already has as many interceptions this season as last season. Kentucky has a talented, young backup in Drew Barker. Our buddy Jared Lorenzen tweeted afterward that it’s still Towles’ team. Do you agree?

Garcia: 100 percent! Towles is one of the better QBs in this conference. He’s a gun slinger and has a NFL arm, which sometimes gets us in trouble because we try to fit the ball into tight coverages. It’s part of the game. I don’t see Kentucky pressing the panic button with only a hand full of games remaining. Kentucky has come a long way and seems to be on the rise even though they did get crushed by Mississippi State. I agree 100 percent with J-Lo in saying this is no doubt Towles’ team. He led them to back-to-back victories over South Carolina and is near the top in just about every category in passing in the SEC.

Question: It seems like Dak Prescott is a forgotten man this season, but he’s doing things this conference hasn’t seen very often, if ever. Fittingly, Prescott has the week off, where he’ll slip back under the radar. What are his NFL prospects?

Garcia: I’m not a NFL scout, but Prescott has definitely improved as a pocket passer. That was his biggest question for the next level. There is no denying he’s one of the best athletes in the country at the quarterback position, but his throwing has been his major question mark. Over the last few weeks, he has answered those questions easily as he has really shown improvement in accuracy and decision-making.

Prescott doesn’t have the strongest arm, nor is he the most accurate in the conference, but what he lacks there, he makes up with athletic ability and courage. He is a warrior.

Question: The RBs will be on display during the Georgia-Florida game Saturday, but which QB do you expect to play better?

Garcia: Tough one. I think Greyson Lambert is a better quarterback than Treon Harris, but Treon really impressed me against LSU a few weeks back. Conversely, Greyson has really struggled the past few weeks, so they are trending in opposite directions.

I think Lambert is a better QB, but Florida has one of the top secondaries in the nation, led by Vernon Hargreaves lll, the top defensive back. Whichever team (or quarterback) doesn’t turn it over will win.

If Lambert can get to his early season form, that favors Georgia.

If he can’t, and Harris plays like he did against LSU, expect a Gators victory.

This is one of the more interesting games this weekend, not only in the SEC but also the nation.

Question: Kyle Allen had his worst game this past weekend against Ole Miss. He also threw three pick-6’s the previous game against Alabama. What is going on? How does he get back to how he was playing prior?

Garcia: People forget that Allen has only started 12 games in his young career. I think he is extremely talented and has won some pretty big games as well.

The past two games, Allen has struggled more than any other SEC quarterback, maybe any in the country. He looks lost and is showing zero confidence.

He needs to have a short memory and get over it. As a quarterback, you are going to have crappy games. It’s just part of the game.

The key is to never lose confidence and as Happy Gilmore had to do, “find your happy place.” Let’s not forget, Ole Miss and Alabama are two of the best teams in the SEC (and country). The A&M offense has struggled and Allen is in charge of getting them back on track.
