Will Muschamp’s tenure as Florida’s head coach did not live up to expectations. But while he’s moved on to a new school, Muschamp is happy for his old players.

Florida wrapped up the SEC East title on Saturday with a 9-7 win over Vanderbilt. The Gators, who are 8-1 and ranked 11th in the latest AP Top 25, will play the SEC West winner in the SEC Championship Game on Dec. 5 in Atlanta.

Many of the Gators’ players were recruited by Muschamp, before finding success under new head coach Jim McElwain. On Sunday, the former coach was asked about Florida winning the SEC East.

“Extremely happy for those guys,” Muschamp said. “Jim has done a fantastic job.”

Muschamp also said he texted several of his former players following Saturday’s game.

The former Gators coach is now Auburn’s defensive coordinator. His new team is just 5-4 this season, but defeated Texas A&M 26-10 on Saturday. The Tigers’ defense limited the Aggies to 10 points and 303 yards of total offense, while picking off three passes.

Muschamp went 28-21 in four seasons at Florida (2011-14). The Gators went 11-2 in 2012 and finished ninth in the final AP poll, but that was the only season they won more than seven games under Muschamp.
