Right around the time the ball drops tonight, we’ll know which two teams will be playing for the national championship on Jan. 11.

The way things are set up in terms of seeding, we’re at least guaranteed to see a team that’s known to score some points against a team that’s known to prevent some points.

Our staff debates which two teams they’d like to see play for that, uh, interesting looking trophy.

WHICH NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHUP WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO SEE?

Chris Wright (@filmroomeditor): Alabama vs. Oklahoma

Can Deshaun Watson transfer to Oklahoma and be eligible in a week? That’s what I really want to see … I want to see Watson — the nation’s best player — vs. Alabama’s D, but I want him to have a fighting chance, too. Clemson wouldn’t give him that. He’d just be a faster, more athletic version of Dak Prescott, with a similar result.

Oklahoma can beat Alabama. Not as wild about that matchup, simply because I’m such a huge Watson fan, but that would be a much better game because Oklahoma has more playmakers, more skill than Clemson.

Tom Brew (@tombrewsports): Alabama vs. Clemson

Even though I think Alabama and Oklahoma are the two best teams and will likely see each other in the final, I’m really pulling for Clemson to get there. Dabo Swinney has done a heck of a job this year in getting past Florida State and finishing the season unbeaten and I’d like to see them at least have a shot at winning the title.

John Brasier (@john_brasiersds): Alabama vs. Clemson

I’d like to see Alabama vs. Clemson for two interesting matchups: Clemson coach Dabo Swinney against his alma mater and Clemson QB Deshaun Watson against the Crimson Tide defense. Swinney didn’t just play for Alabama — he walked on. And he stuck with it and eventually saw the field for a national championship team. Watson is the most valuable offensive player in the nation. Alabama would remain dominant without Derrick Henry. Clemson would be 9-4 without Watson.

Talal Elmasry (@TalalElmasrySDS): Alabama vs. Oklahoma

No matchup provides as many juicy storylines as this one. First, you have two of the most prominent programs in college football. Second, you have Nick Saban vs. Bob Stoops, who has taken several shots at SEC’s dominance, calling it “propaganda.” Meanwhile, the Crimson Tide would be looking for revenge against the Sooners, who beat Alabama 45-31 almost exactly two years ago in the Sugar Bowl.

However, more than anything, I truly believe these are the two best teams right now in the country. Oklahoma is balanced and has plenty of star power on both sides of the ball. Not as much as Alabama, but then again, who does?

Christopher Smith (@csmithSDS): Alabama vs. Oklahoma

I’d love to see a Bob Stoops-Nick Saban rematch. If any offense can give Alabama’s defense a challenge this year, it’s probably the revamped Sooners unit led by coordinator Lincoln Riley, quarterback Baker Mayfield and running back Samaje Perine. That’s the game that would get the most ratings, and with the ACC struggling so badly, no one is thrilled to see Clemson.
