Southeastern Conference coordinators seem to switch jobs and locations faster than a mail carrier set in Buffalo, N.Y. No offense, mail carriers or Buffalo.

The point is, that once established in the SEC, it’s only a matter of time before successful coaches move up the food chain, whether it be in conference or elsewhere across the country. The SEC is looked up to by most, and hated by others due to jealousy.

Entering the 2016 season, 13 new coordinators have been hired in the conference since the end of last year and the ESPN.com staff debated which one will make the biggest impact. Many pointed to LSU’s hiring of Dave Aranda.

“Look at the numbers his Wisconsin defenses posted over the last three years,” said David Ching. “The guy was doing incredible work in the Big Ten: first in the FBS in total defense (289.4 yards per game), second in scoring defense (17.03 points per game), third against the pass (180.9 ypg) and fourth against the run (108.5 ypg) between 2013 and 2015.”

ESPN’s Sam Khan talked about Aranda as well.

“His success at other places with not as much talent or depth as LSU makes me believe that the ceiling is high for him this season,” Kahn said. “Aranda is well respected and highly thought of by coaches around the country I’ve spoken with, and I know several who think he’s going to be a home run for LSU.”

ESPN’s Edward Aschoff brought up Tennessee’s hiring of Bob Shoop as the defensive coordinator and Greg Ostendorf voted Alabama defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt as the most impactful.

While ESPN’s bloggers all chose defensive coordinators, I may choose an offensive one. Jim Chaney, the new offensive coordinator at Georgia, could utilize his newly acquired talent even better. Chaney was the offensive coordinator at Tennessee from 2009-12 and had the same position with Arkansas in 2013-14, so he knows the SEC landscape.

Chaney was a part of the coaching staff while Drew Brees played at Purdue and has done work in the NFL with St. Louis Rams as well. Now that Georgia has a 6-foot-5 freshman quarterback in Jacob Eason, who is a 5-star recruit by the way, Chaney and Eason could take the SEC East by storm. Let’s not forget the talent in the backfield with Nick Chubb and Sony Michel.

Georgia was just the SEC’s ninth best scoring offense in 2015, averaging 26.3 points per game. The Bulldogs also finished 10th in passing offense. I expect those numbers to improve this season.
