Scroll the top 10 of recruiting classes across America and the SEC is littered throughout. Five of the 10 are from the conference: Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Auburn and Texas A&M.

While the last month has seen action pick up with recruits flipping teams, the final flourish will come in the weeks leading up to National Signing Day on Feb. 1.

Here are some observations and the latest rankings from the 247Sports composite list:

Alabama

National ranking: 1

SEC ranking: 1

Skinny: The Crimson Tide boast four five-star commits, and that group doesn’t include the top dual threat quarterback in the country, four-star Tua Tagovailoa. Najee Harris, the running back from California who is the nation’s top recruit, will be the crown jewel of Alabama’s group barring an unlikely shift to Michigan.

Arkansas

National ranking: 22

SEC ranking: 10

Skinny: The Razorbacks have four four-star recruits. The most notable is JUCO tight end Jeremy Patton of Arizona Western College, who chose Arkansas over several SEC West rivals, including Alabama. The Razorbacks got all but two of their commits by last summer.

Auburn

National ranking: 8

SEC ranking: 4

Skinny: Calvin Ashley, a five-star offensive tackle from the nation’s capital, committed to the Tigers more than a year and a half ago and is the top player in their class. The Tigers have six of the top 15 recruits in Alabama and have secured five commitments since Halloween.

Florida

National ranking: 19

SEC ranking: 8

Skinny: The Gators are among five teams in the top 10 recruiting classes in the SEC without a five-star commitment, though they’re reportedly in on defensive tackle Aubrey Solomon from Leesburg, Ga. Jim McElwain believes the lopsided bowl win and back-to-back SEC East titles give the Gators momentum, but there’s still work to be done.

Georgia

National ranking: 3

SEC ranking: 2

Skinny: No other team has had a flourish since Dec. 1 like the Bulldogs, who have collected six commitments in that time period. Two of the notable players in that group are five-star 6-foot-7, 350-pound offensive tackle Isaiah Wilson from Brooklyn, N.Y., and four-star safety Deangelo Gibbs from Loganville, Ga.

Kentucky

National ranking: 23

SEC ranking: 11

Skinny: Five of the 22 commitments are from Ohio, an area credited with the turnaround under Mark Stoops that led to a bowl berth this season. But aside from junior college players, the Wildcats’ best recruits are ranked no better than No. 228 nationally.

LSU

National ranking: 7

SEC ranking: 3

Skinny: The Tigers boast 10 of their 19 commitments from traditional recruiting areas Louisiana and Texas. But their top recruit is five-star safety JaCoby Stevens from Murfreesboro, Tenn. Stevens reportedly became a done deal with the Tigers when defensive backs coach Corey Raymond signed an extension before Christmas.

Mississippi State

National ranking: 20

SEC ranking: 9

Skinny: What the Bulldogs lack in rankings, they make up for in signees as they had nine players from junior colleges already file paperwork and four more early enrollees on campus, including a four-star quarterback, Keytaon Thompson.

Missouri

National ranking: 37

SEC ranking: 12

Skinny: Surprisingly, the Tigers have only one in-state player among their 20 recruits. But he is their highest rated recruit, three-star athlete Daron Davis from Kansas City. By comparison, last year’s first class for Barry Odom had six in-state signees and Gary Pinkel’s smallest in-state class had three in 2011.

Ole Miss

National ranking: 38

SEC ranking: 13

Skinny: The Rebels have two four-star recruits among their 15 commitments. It’s been an up and down recruiting season for the Rebels, who lost five-star running back Cam Akers of Clinton, Miss., to Florida State about a week ago. But on New Year’s Day, they landed four-star linebacker Breon Dixon of Loganville, Ga.

South Carolina

National ranking: 14

SEC ranking: 7

Skinny: At 22 commits, the Gamecocks have healthy numbers, and they also have the top-rated player in the Palmetto State, four-star wide receiver OrTre Smith. They also have a four-star cornerback in Jamyest Williams of Loganville, Ga., who’s getting a strong late push from Georgia. They also have the No. 2 recruit in South Carolina and the No. 2 recruit in North Carolina.

Tennessee

National ranking: 11

SEC ranking: 6

Skinny: The Vols are tied for the most recruits in a class in the SEC at 26 alongside Alabama and Texas A&M. Five-star offensive tackle Trey Smith is the best in the class and the No. 3 rated player in Tennessee. His recruitment came under scrutiny when it was reported that his sister worked for Butch Jones over the summer.

Texas A&M

National ranking: 9

SEC ranking: 5

Skinny: Four-star wide receiver Jhamon Ausbon is the highest-rated player in this class, and recently flipped from LSU. In talent-rich Texas, the Aggies’ best in-state recruit is four-star inside linebacker Anthony Hines of Plano (ranked No. 10 overall in Texas).

Vanderbilt

National ranking: 64

SEC ranking: 14

Skinny: The Commodores have yet to land an in-state recruit among their 14 commits, and all the recruits are rated as three-stars. Pro-style quarterback Jacob Free of Brantley, Ala., heads the class, which also is expected to have early enrollees Dimitri Moore, an outside linebacker from Cedar Hill, Texas, and safety Tae Daley of Warner Robins, Ga.
