No matter the draft class, Missouri continues to churn out elite defensive lineman seemingly every year. This year during the 2017 NFL Draft, it was Charles Harris’ time to shine. Although Harris’ path to the draft would have been tough to predict coming out of high school.

More interested in pursuing a career in in the NBA, Harris had to be talked into giving football a chance by his high school coach Lee Allen. Thankfully Harris listened to Lee’s pitch and the rest was history.

In the video above, Missouri assistant coach Andy Hill talks about receiving his first phone call regarding Harris and making the wise decision to visit the unknown prospect. In Hill’s 20-year history with Missouri, he is currently the longest-tenured coach on the staff, the assistant coach admits he had never been to Harris’ school, Lincoln College Preparatory Academy, one time in his career.

The fact that Harris overcame all these odds to become an elite NFL prospect is truly remarkable. Harris was selected by the Miami Dolphins with the No. 22 overall pick.
