Jordan Edwards never got the opportunity to live out his dream of playing football for the University of Alabama.

Edwards, 15, was the victim in a highly controversial shooting in Balch Springs, Texas on April 29. When UA coach Nick Saban heard that Edwards’ dream school was Alabama, he sent the family a care package, including a personalized jersey.

Edwards was killed when Dallas County Sheriff officer Roy D. Oliver II fired into a car of teenagers, Edwards’ brothers, leaving a party in the Dallas suburb. Oliver was responding to reports of underage drinking at said party.

Police initially said the car was backing toward Oliver when he fired, but a review of body cam footage found that after backing up, the driver was driving away from the officer when he fired into the vehicle. Oliver was terminated from his position and charged with murder. Edwards was sitting in the front passenger seat of the vehicle.
