The most popular game this week for bettors is Auburn-LSU, as more than 6,000 betting tickets are already recorded, according to Sports Insights.

An interesting note, though, is that 87 percent of the early action has been on Auburn to cover.

Despite LSU winning and covering last week at Florida, this line opened last week LSU +6.5, and the Tigers initially dropped to +6 at some books before public bettors moved Auburn back up to -7, Sports Insights reported. It appears that the line in the sand is LSU +7.5 as most sharps, or professional bettors, would jump on the purple and gold Tigers at that point.

This activity mirrors last week’s game between LSU and Florida when most of the public backed the Gators. Sharper money moved LSU from +6.5 to -2 by game time.

Public perception certainly sees Auburn as gaining momentum, including being ranked No. 10 in the AP poll, after a loss to Clemson and lopsided wins over Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Missouri. LSU, meanwhile, lost to Mississippi State by 30 points, and then lost a homecoming game to Troy.

Auburn last won at LSU in what’s known as the “Cigar Game” in 1999 and trails the series 17-5-1 in Baton Rouge. On then-coach Tommy Tuberville’s birthday, Auburn beat LSU 41–7, and then Auburn players and coaches smoked cigars on the field at Tiger Stadium.

Auburn enters this week 5-1 and 3-0 in the SEC, while LSU is 4-2, 1-1.
