The Gamecocks went on the road and put up a good fight against the No. 1 team in the nation but ultimately lost 24-10 to Georgia. How losing will affect this team down the stretch will be interesting to see, as South Carolina had won three in a row prior to last weekend.

The South Carolina coach spoke Wednesday during the SEC Coaches Teleconference.

Here’s a summary of what he had to say:

  • Thoughts on Hayden Hurst? His blocking is something we challenged him with, in both running and passing — that’s where I think he’s taken the next step in his game. He already had his route running down. He is as competitive of a guy as we have. The major contribution he brings is his leadership.
  • When you were let go by Florida, how did you refocus? Well, my first focus was on our players, we still had a couple games left. We wanted to handle our exit with as much class as possible. After I was off for a few days, my wife was ready to get rid of me.
  • Did you imagine you’d be back in the SEC East as a head coach? No. I appreciate the opportunity we’ve been given.
  • Thoughts on Jake Fromm? He made a couple third down plays, that throw to Mecole Hardman was a great throw. He made a couple throws that were very contested. I felt he was capable but we were going to force him to do it. That was something we needed to make happen.
