The SEC has put together another strong season with three teams eyeing a potential Playoff bid, and four SEC coaches are being recognized as Coach of the Year candidates.

The four coaches up for the George Munger Collegiate Coach of the Year Award are Alabama’s Nick Saban, Auburn’s Gus Malzahn, Georgia’s Kirby Smart, and Mississippi State’s Dan Mullen. Each team is currently ranked in the Playoff Top 25.

Saban has led Alabama all the way to a No. 1 ranking and undefeated record to this point. The Crimson Tide are looking to win another SEC Championship Game and become the only team to make four straight appearances in the Playoff.

Malzahn has Auburn up to No. 6 after a huge upset over No. 1 Georgia. The Tigers have two losses but are trying to become the first two-loss team to make the Playoff. An upset of Alabama in the Iron Bowl and win in the SEC Championship Game could pull it off for the Tigers.

Smart led the Bulldogs to an incredible 9-0 start and No. 1 ranking before losing to Auburn. Georgia still has a shot to make the Playoff if it can run the table and win the SEC Championship Game, but there is no denying the progress Smart has made in Athens this season.

Mullen has coached Mississippi State to a 7-3 record and No. 16 ranking in the Playoff Top 25. The Bulldogs are likely out of contention for the Playoff, but the three losses have come at the hands of the other three coaches on this list. Mullen is having a strong run and is well deserving of the recognition.
