Tennessee may not have a new head coach yet, but it is being reported that one more name is not a candidate for the position.

The search for a new coach has been a long one for Vols fans. One interesting aspect through it all is Tennessee’s Rock, which has served as a canvas for many fans to voice their opinions.

The latest message on The Rock surfaced Monday, and this time the candidates featured were former LSU head coach Les Miles and former Vols QB Tee Martin. Martin is currently serving as the OC at USC.

A Miles-Martin combination would have been an interesting choice, but a report from Tuesday seems to shoot down that possibility. Pete Thamel with Yahoo! Sports addressed the ongoing search in Knoxville, and he stated that Miles is not a candidate for the position.

A few names that Thamel did mention to keep an eye on are Georgia DC Mel Tucker and Auburn DC Kevin Steele now that Phillip Fulmer is in as AD:

Look for coaches who would fit in Fulmer’s mold…Look for SEC coordinators like Georgia’s Mel Tucker and Auburn’s Kevin Steele to be targets, as Fulmer will value experience in the league…Former LSU coach Les Miles is not a candidate.

Thamel also noted that Fulmer will not hire Lane Kiffin and mentioned that Mike Leach’s name has cooled considerably.
