Former Penn State offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead continues to go the route of familiarity and trust to build his first Mississippi State coaching staff.

After hiring Penn State running back coach Charles Huff to be his co-offensive coordinator, running backs coach and assistant head coach in Starkville, Moorhead is now reportedly going back to his Fordham roots to hire head coach Andrew Breiner.

Of course, Breiner won’t be a head coach in Starkville, he will be Mississippi State’s quarterback coach and passing game coordinator under Moorhead. Before landing at Penn State, Moorhead was Fordham’s head coach and was replaced by Breiner. The two also worked together at UConn according to FootballScoop.

Bruce Feldman is also reporting Breiner’s hire at Mississippi State:

Mississippi State has since confirmed the hire. Here’s a statement from Mississippi State’s head coach:

“Andrew is one of the bright, up-and-coming coaches in college football,” Moorhead said. “He has a firm grasp of our offensive philosophy with his background as a head coach and as an assistant coach. He’s someone who is going to be a tremendous asset for our program and our players in their development. He’s also innovative and will do an outstanding job of teaching the game.”

And another from Breiner expressing his excitement to join the MSU staff:

“Kelly and I are thrilled to be a part of the Mississippi State family,” Breiner said. “Having worked with Joe at Fordham and UConn, we know the type of man and leader he is. It’s a privilege to join his staff here, and we look forward to bringing continued success to the Bulldog program. I am also extremely excited to get to work with our talented quarterback room. The success of Mississippi State quarterbacks has been well-documented and is something we want to continue going forward.”
