SEC teams face enough recruiting competition from their brethren.

But the talent-rich SEC region also faces competition from teams all over country, most significantly from nearby ACC schools.

Clemson came into Gainesville, Ga., which is fewer than 50 miles from the University of Georgia campus, and signed a quarterback named Deshaun Watson. Two years before that, Florida State went into Hueytown, Ala., and grabbed a quarterback named Jameis Winston, who had offers from half the SEC schools, including Alabama, Auburn and Florida.

Each of those quarterbacks led his ACC team to a national championship.
