Kentucky DL Adrian Middleton makes bold statement about defense's performance in scrimmage

The Kentucky Wildcats held a spring scrimmage on Saturday, and it seems as if the defense is ahead of the offense at this point.

Of course, the Wildcats are trying to replace starting QB Stephen Johnson as well as other key players, but it sounds like the defense had plenty of confidence on Saturday.

According to DL Adrian Middleton, Saturday’s scrimmage was no contest, as the defense dominated from start to finish:

DL Adrian Middleton: “We kicked (the offense’s) ass today. They know it.”

Coach Mark Stoops wasn’t quite as confident as Middleton, but he did say the defense played well during the scrimmage:

Stoops says it was a good first “real” scrimmage today. Defense is a little bit ahead of the offense, “as it should be.” Not many big plays or missed tackles.

Of course, the Wildcats were without their star offensive player in RB Benny Snell Jr. Stoops said the coaching staff wanted to get a better look at some other backs on the roster:

Kentucky coaches held Benny Snell out of the scrimmage today because they wanted to get longer look at Sihiem King and A.J. Rose. Both did some good things, Stoops said.

The Kentucky offense will improve before the start of the season, but it’s a good sign for the Wildcats that the defense is feeling so confident.
