The way Barrett Jones sees it, it’s very unlikely that Alabama starts Jalen Hurts next season.

The former Alabama standout on the offensive line has confidence in Hurts’ ability but noted how difficult of a decision it must have been for Nick Saban to insert a true freshman into the lineup for the second half of the National Championship Game. Jones believes that decision says a lot while also noting how the team responded once Tua Tagovailoa entered the game.

Here is what Jones had to say about the ongoing quarterback competition at Alabama during a recent interview on SiriusXM radio program SEC This Morning on Friday.

“That was a huge change for Coach Saban to make. Honestly, if you talk to people being the scenes, it was something that had been brewing for awhile. I think it’s more about the team,” Jones said on the show. “To me, when I saw Tua take the field — I know it was only a half, I feel like the team had confidence and really believed in him. Not that they played harder, there was a different level of excitement on the field. So that’s why I think he’ll be the starter. Jalen is a talented kid but at the end of the day, it comes down to the team and that’s who the team believes in.”

Tagovailoa’s injury likely doesn’t help matters but Jones makes some good points there. It seems like everyone has a take on where Alabama should turn next season at quarterback and the official decision isn’t likely to come any time soon.
