Frank Ragnow bypassed an opportunity to head to the draft last year to help stabilize Arkansas’ offensive line and improve his draft stock by playing his senior season in Fayetteville. Unfortunately, it’s debatable whether either of those things happened for the Minnesota native in 2017.

You can’t put that on Ragnow, however, as the Razorback offensive linemen around him never offered much help and he suffered several injuries that limited his availability on the field during his final collegiate season. While some may have cooled on Ragnow’s NFL prospects, NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock cannot be considered in that camp. Quite the opposite, in fact.

During his recent appearance on Barstool Sports’ Pardon My Take podcast, Mayock was asked to give one name that could “surprise” in the upcoming draft that isn’t getting enough attention heading into the NFL’s annual selection process.

The NFL Network’s draft analyst didn’t hesitate to give his answer.

“I think a surprise first-round pick is going to be offensive center Frank Ragnow from Arkansas, who missed like half of the year last year,” Mayock said on the podcast. “He can play all three interior offensive line positions. Nobody is talking about him and I think he’s going in the first round.”

For what it’s worth, Pro Football Focus has also recently been touting Ragnow’s ability among the draft’s top center prospects. It appears, depending on who you ask, Arkansas could have a first-round pick this year if a team is willing to pull the trigger on Ragnow.
