LSU’s impressive start to in-state recruiting for the 2019 recruiting cycle continues as Louisiana’s top-ranked linebacker prospect has just announced his commitment to the Tigers.

John Ehret High School product Donte Starks made his commitment public Thursday night, picking LSU over Auburn, Georgia and Arkansas. The 6-foot-1, 225-pound Starks is rated as a four-star prospect, the No. 6 inside linebacker in the nation and Louisiana’s No. 6 overall prospect for the 2019 recruiting cycle according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.

As a junior for John Ehret, Starks racked up 82 tackles and 13 tackles-for-loss. He also added four rushing touchdowns with a limited offensive role. He made his announcement by posting this video:

Following this commitment, the Tigers now hold commitments from three of the top in-state prospects (five-star cornerback Derek Stingley and five-star offensive lineman Kardell Thomas have already picked LSU), while the other top Louisiana prospects (defensive lineman Ishmael Sopsher, running back John Emery Jr. and receiver Devonta Lee) all remaining uncommitted at this time.

LSU’s success in recruiting hasn’t been limited to just in-state prospects, as the Tigers now hold pledges from 19 prospects overall — nine of which are rated as four- or five-star recruits. With Starks now committed to the class, the Tigers jump back up one spot in the national recruiting rankings and have the nation’s No. 3 class once again. Only Alabama and Texas A&M have higher ranked recruiting class for 2019 at this time.
