In the three years prior to joining Penn State’s staff as an offensive coordinator, Joe Moorhead had racked up an impressive 32-8 record as Fordham’s head coach.

Therefore, the move back to coordinator surprised some people, but now that Moorhead is the head coach at Mississippi State, it appears that move paid off.

Recently, Moorhead spoke with PennLive.com, saying the move back to coordinator, where he served on James Franklin’s staff the past two seasons, gave him some new perspective on the game:

“It gives you fresh perspective and a new set of ideas, and eventually when you have the opportunity again to be a head coach, it makes you better,” Moorhead said. “You’re really trying to take all the positive things from all the places you’ve been and certainly from my time at Penn State, from a program-building, from a cultural aspect, from an Xs and Os and what we did offensively. And certainly, Coach is a renowned recruiter. I’m carrying those good things and bringing them down to Mississippi State.”

Obviously, Penn State has been a great team the past two seasons, and Moorhead benefitted from working with QB Trace McSorley and RB Saquon Barkley.

Now, he’ll try to put his stamp on the Mississippi State program. Based on what he’s learned the past couple of years, the Bulldogs will be must-see TV this fall.
