What does $75 million guaranteed get you? According to Jimbo Fisher, it could buy Texas A&M a national championship-level program immediately.

During his first appearance at SEC Media Days as Texas A&M’s head coach, Fisher was asked about his “timetable” for winning a title. According to the first-year A&M coach, his expectation is to win immediately in College Station. While it’s accurate to say that, Fisher also noted that he won’t really know if that’s accurate until his team hits the field this fall.

Here’s what Fisher had to say when asked about his “timetable” for winning in College Station:

“Your timetable is as quick as you can put things in place and everyone buys into what you are trying to do.,” Fisher answered. “You have a timetable, the timetable is now. You want to win one immediately but is that realistic? I don’t know. Could it be? Yes, but could it not be? Yes. It’s all about the process of putting things in place because you want to build the program the right way up and get kids to understand and buy-in.

“I’ll say this, the attitude of our players has been tremendous. I’ve been very proud of that. We’ve come in and there’s a lot of change — not that we do things differently than the other side was right but just the philosophical difference and the way they’ve handled it has been tremendous. You never know.

“When we went to Auburn that year, 1993, and Alabama was defending national champs, they come off a 5-6 team and we went undefeated. So it can happen quickly. At LSU, it took three or four years. At Florida State, it took us four years to do it, I don’t know. You don’t ever put a timetable on things because you can’t judge people — you don’t know how guys are going to respond and the chemistry of your unit, the comradery of your staff. Hopefully, we do it as quickly as we can.”
