When it comes to the best running back in college football headed into the 2018 season there are a lot of names to consider.

Bryce Love at Stanford, Damien Harris at Alabama, Myles Gaskin at Washington and Cam Akers at Florida State all belong in the conversation. Kentucky linebacker Josh Allen is very comfortable in saying it’s a player on his team who deserves the honor.

“I believe Benny Snell is the best running back in college football,” Allen said Monday at SEC Media Days.

The statistics suggest Snell has a case as well. He rushed for 13 touchdowns and 1,091 yards as a freshman in 2016. He then improved on those totals with another 19 touchdowns and 1,333 yards last season.

Snell also has some lingering motivation from last season after he was ejected from the Music City Bowl.

He’s confident in his own abilities as well, calling himself the best running back in the SEC on Monday during his comments to the media.

Another significant season from Snell could easily land the Wildcats in a more high-profile bowl. If he can live up to his own billing, he might be walking across the stage on the first night of the  NFL Draft in 2019.
