As the investigation at Ohio State unfolds, Urban Meyer’s contract details are being reported that if he’s terminated for cause, it could cost him nearly $40 million.

The contract, which is set to expire after the 2022 season, was originally reported in April by USATODAY’s Steve Berkowitz, as having language that states that Meyer could be fired for cause if it’s found that he failed to report sexual misconduct, including harassment and stalking, while employed at Ohio State or any other institution of higher learning.

The specific amount would be $38.1 million. Meyer, who is on paid administrative leave, is set to make $7.6 million this season and due automatic annual raises until 2022.

Berkowitz reported that the new language, referring to sexual misconduct, student-athlete health, safety and welfare, is becoming increasingly common in coaching contracts. It was also included in a recent agreement with new Ohio State men’s basketball coach Chris Holtmann.
