UPDATE: Here’s what Manziel said after the game about his nightmarish debut.

Johnny Manziel’s highly anticipated first Canadian Football League start has turned into a complete nightmare.

It’s only halftime, and Manziel’s team (Montreal Alouettes) trails his former team (Hamilton Tiger-Cats) 38-3. Manziel has thrown for just 90 yards and four INTs.

Manziel has shown some nice mobility, but he’s made some head-scratching throws that quarterbacks shouldn’t make. Sure, Manziel hasn’t played in an actual football game in a while (he did play the spring league and practiced in the CFL), but nobody was anticipating this kind of start to his CFL career.

Here’s the last of his INTs just before halftime:

The Tiger-Cats recently traded Manziel to the Alouettes, who have the worst CFL offense, and he hasn’t had much time to practice with the team and learn the playbook. Still, this is just a forgettable half of football.

Manziel’s four INTs are the most in one CFL game this year.

Hopefully for Manziel’s sake, he can turn things around in the second half.
