Former Alabama DB says he'll 'be shocked' if Tua Tagovailoa isn't Week 1 starter for Crimson Tide
Everyone is watching the quarterback battle at Alabama, as Tua Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts are duking it out for the Week 1 starting job.
The Crimson Tide held their first scrimmage of the summer on Saturday, and former Alabama DB Will Lowery was in attendance.
Following the scrimmage Lowery said he’d be shocked if Tagovailoa doesn’t take the first snaps against Louisville in Week 1:
Disclaimer: this is the first scrimmage of camp, and the only practice I’ve seen. But from what I watched today, I’ll be shocked if Tua isn’t day 1 starter, and it isn’t close. Don’t expect an announcement prior to opening kickoff tho..

Tagovailoa was the hero from the National Championship Game, so it’s no surprise that many Alabama fans want him as the Week 1 starter.

However, Hurts isn’t going to go down without a fight. Lowery doesn’t expect coach Nick Saban to name a starter before Week 1, though, so fans will have to wait a while longer to find out who won the battle.
