Heading into the season, one of the hottest debates in college football was whether the Big Ten East or SEC West was the best division in the country.

Right now, for the record, the SEC West has five teams — No. 1 Alabama, No. 6 LSU, No. 9 Auburn, No. 14 Mississippi State and No. 22 Texas A&M — in the AP Poll top 25. The Big Ten East only has four — No. 4 Ohio State, No. 10 Penn State, No. 19 Michigan and No. 24 Michigan State.

On Monday, CBS Sports announcer Brad Nessler joined ESPNU Radio on SiriusXM and weighed in on the debate, and took a shot at the Big Ten in the process:

“I think the West is really good,” he said. “I think it’s the best division right now in football. I know there are people in the Big Ten who had certain things to say, but right now, I think the Big Ten should ask the MAC to join and have the Big 26. That was a nice shot at the Big Ten, wasn’t it?

“I think the whole conference is better. I think the East will come around. Florida’s going to take a while, Tennessee’s going to take a while.”

By the end of the season, this may not be a debate anymore, as the SEC West is laying waste to the rest of the country.
