Only two days after Maurice Smith was waived by the Miami Dolphins, he returned to the team on Wednesday.

The former safety at Georgia and Alabama is now in his third stint with the team as it juggles its roster with injuries and other signings. A spot for Smith was created by the team putting LB Chase Allen on injured reserve. Previously, Smith was cut to add OT Sam Young to the roster.

Smith has played in 10 career games, all with the Dolphins, since entering the NFL as an undrafted college free agent after the 2017 NFL Draft. This season, he’s played in four games with three solo tackles and one pass defensed after he was promoted from the practice squad on Sept. 18.

Smith played his first three college seasons at Alabama before he followed defensive coordinator Kirby Smart to Georgia as a graduate transfer when Smart became the head coach of the Bulldogs in 2016. A backup at Alabama, Smith became a team captain at Georgia in his final college season.
