Three days after news broke of Tennessee freshman offensive lineman Tanner Antonutti ending his career and accepting a medical scholarship, one of his positionmates followed suit.

Vols redshirt sophomore Devante Brooks has chosen to retire due to an undisclosed injury, according to a report from 247Sports.com. Brooks was pressed into a starting role for the final four games of 2017, but he suffered an injury midway through spring practice and didn’t participate in any sessions during the season after beginning fall camp in action.

Brooks, who joined Tennessee as a 3-star recruit out of Washington, D.C., won’t count against the 85-man scholarship limit as he finishes his degree in Knoxville. The same goes for Antonutti, who hopes to enter a student coach role with the team.

The Volunteers have signed four offensive linemen, including 5-star tackle Wanya Morris, in the Early Signing Period this week.
