LOOK: Ole Miss fans, media lobby for Kermit Davis to win SEC Coach of the Year award
Heading into the 2018-19 regular season, many projected that the Ole Miss Rebels would finish in dead-last place in the SEC under first-year head coach Kermit Davis.
Instead, the Rebels overcame a lack of post depth and finished the year with a 20-11 overall record and a 10-8 SEC record and will likely earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
Now, Rebel fans and media members are heaping the praise on Davis after a regular-season finale victory over Mizzou on Saturday. Though there are a number of strong candidates for the SEC’s Coach of the Year award, many think it should go to Davis.
Here’s a sampling of the support he’s getting on Twitter:
Ole Miss is in the NCAA Tournament, a season after losing 13 of its final 14 games and in a year in which we, the media, picked them to finish last (I voted them 13th). Kermit Davis should win Coach of the Year. The Rebels have precious little low-post play and no depth.

If Kermit Davis is not SEC Coach of the Year, the award means nothing. The turnaround from last year to this was unreal and completely due to coaching.

Death. Taxes. And Kermit Davis winning 20 games

Kermit Davis is the SEC Coach of The Year, and honestly, it’s not even close.

Ole Miss head coach Kermit Davis, Jr.
SEC Coach of the Year
I’m not sure there’s a close second.

If Kermit Davis isn’t your vote for @SEC coach of the year then you’re wrong. Period.

I have no idea who will win SEC Coach of the Year, but Kermit Davis guided a team with no depth, weak post play, and largely the same personnel from a a 12-win team a year ago to a 10-8 mark in the Southeastern Conference. A fairly compelling case, if nothing else. https://t.co/cjWjovVZ1w

Ole Miss will be the No. 7 seed in the upcoming SEC Tournament, and it’s safe to say no one will be happy to see the Rebels in Nashville.
